Seeing this owl hunt a squirrel was what pushed me down the path into wildlife photography. I was standing in a creek taking a long exposure shot when I spotted this owl land in a tree nearby. I walked up the bank to get a shot of it and it swooped right over my head to try and grab a squirrel I was not aware of. For a moment I thought it was coming for me.
I turned and took a series of shots using just a 18-135mm lens. This shot was of the owl after it had just missed the squirrel on the ground. It turned to look at me and I took this image. At that point I figured it was time to give the owl some space so it could hunt and I left with one of my favourite images and a new excitement for wildlife photography.
